James D. Lopez was born and raised in Los Angeles. He has been writing and drawing since he was a child, eventually going on to pursue a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in English from, respectively, Loyola Marymount University and California State University Dominguez Hills. He is currently an adjunct English instructor and Teacher Associate at the El Camino College Compton Center in Compton, CA.

James is a life-long fan of the Horror genre, having been practically raised on Horror films, literature, and other media. He is also a life-long fan of Literature and Art. He is an especially big fan of Edgar Allan Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Dr. Seuss, Stephen King, Roald Dahl, Salvador Dali, Goya, and the Brothers Grimm (among many others, of course), all of whom have influenced his creative output to varying degrees. He dabbles in multiple genres, including Horror, Satire, Surrealism, Poetry, and Comedy, sometimes all at once.

As an instructor, Professor Lopez encourages both creativity and Critical Thinking in his classroom. He believes very strongly in freedom of thought and encourages his students to express themselves as freely and creatively as possible. Here’s a bit of insight into his teaching philosophy: “I’ve always felt that students are more likely to put out their best work if they are able to express themselves honestly and in a way in which they are able to make connections between various topics and their own personal experiences and interests.” He is currently working on several projects of his own both within and outside of the classroom environment, including his own publishing label: Little Gnome Publications.
