The 2017 Ladies of Horror

The following Ladies will be contributing to:
The Ladies of Horror 2017
Jenna M. Pitman

Jenna M. Pitman was born in Washington state where she learned to love books at a young age. It wasn't long before she was writing for herself and she saw her first publishing credit, a serialized fiction series in a local zine.

Soon she was selling stories and articles to a number of anthologies and magazines, including fan-favorite the Lovecraft eZine. In 2013 she moved to sunny Los Angeles, CA with her household of animals where she writes and trains dogs.

The quiet W. Freedreamer Tinkanesh, known to be a versatile artist, a chocolate fiend, an independent musician, and a tree hugger, enjoys photographic walks in cemeteries where tombstones and trees mingle together.

W has contributed to various anthologies including the Ladies & Gentlemen of Horror 2014 anthology (as a writer) and the Ladies & Gentlemen of Horror 2016 (as an artist). This secretive writer is the author of a novel entitled ‘Outsider’ (punch line: ‘Vampires and lesbians enjoying rock music in London’) published in 2012, and ‘Tales for the 21st Century’, a collection of short stories published in 2014.

This non-binary person lives with two cats in London and has a tendency to devour books (paper is a very edible substance) while drinking coffee or water (coffee being coloured water) and eating too much chocolate, on a background of music by Joan Armatrading or Patti Smith or deux furieuses or Mimi Fox.

Evelyn Eve

Evelyn Eve is a NorCal denizen and enjoys the hills, creeks, and woods surrounding her urban cave.  She is a MTF/transgender, USAF veteran, retired cargo aircraft mechanic, former martial arts instructor, collector of all things giant robot, witch in training, and .0000025% cyborg (long story).

She also enjoys watching birds of prey in action, is a fledgling archer, hiker, and all-around nostalgia junkie. Between tending to her hobbies, six cats, adopted dog, and seven human children, she still manages to squeeze in the periodic writing session.

A semi-elusive creature, she has given the nickname Transquatch. If you see her outside, be sure to take a picture. Otherwise, no one will believe you.

Kerry A. Morgan

She is a third-degree in Uechi-Ryu karate and has taught for several years. Kerry wrote her first book at age nine and has continued to write ever since.

This book marks the first of her next series of: The Cup And The Blade. The second installment, Darkness Born is also available now.

M. L. Wallace

M. L. Wallace is what happens when clashing interests attempt to inhabit the same human being. She is a writer of horrors, an artist, an avid fan on B-side movies from yesteryear, believer in faeries, and above all an admirer of beautiful things.

She spends her time taking nightly walks and hiding herself away with her little black cat to write. With an obsessive need to learn, it is not at all uncommon to see her with a book in hand, whether it be about plant life or Victorian occultism. A trait that follows her into her stories.

Her passion in writing comes from a love of classic literature and the wish to always live partially in her imagination. A place that is both frightening and delightful. Ladies and Gentlemen of Horror 2017 will be the home to her debut work.

M. S. A.

M.S.A’s soul was stirred with rhyming words when she was just a few years old. Her maternal grandfather, a doctorate in literature and her father, a rocket scientist laid the first few stones in the foundation of her writing career. Her dad would inspire her and challenge her to find rhyming words similar to the rhymes she used to sing. Dry listing of words was tedious and did not mean much to her.  With her feeble diction and broken grammar, M.S.A was able to string words into her very first poem on her mother. Her grandfather would offer encouragement and tips of how to improve her writing.

Born into a family of avid readers, M.S.A could do nothing but take up the family tradition of reading. Storybooks enthralled her! She loved reading stories, but loved to write poems. She did not read poems much because she noticed that the usage of rhymes can sometimes influence your own creations. That seemed to compromise M.S.A’s own creativity and sabotage her thrill of discovery of rhyming words by using dictionary to find new words and ways to use them in her poems. She did not like writing stories or essays since there was this cumbersome grammar that she had to satisfy. Poems gave her the artistic license to ignore it. Totally! But then one day she finds her mother craft a brilliant short story! Her world changes entirely. Her mother’s story lured her into storytelling because here she could create her own world with endless possibilities! Anything could happen; anything she liked! As she ventured into this enchanting world, she realized that an effective story obeys most of the rules of the real world, but slightly deviates to deliver a powerful message. And thus she embarked on a story telling mission.

Stories can be told in many ways. If writing is one way, speaking is another. M.S.A is a member of Toastmasters where she gets to speak regularly. Here she learnt the importance of humor, well placed anecdotes and other story telling techniques. Her brother was her first experience in incorporating humor in daily banter. His timing is spectacular. M.S.A originally lacked that timing. Gaining inspiration from her brother, M.S.A managed to get a foothold in humor and uses it in both speeches and writing. Motivated by her driven husband to reach the stars, M.S.A hones her speaking and writing skills to utilize even in her professional world. Becoming a mom only fueled her drive to achieve… She says “If ever my daughter questions her ability to manage her profession, her family, her hobbies, her responsibilities and others, she needs to look at me and think ‘if my mom can do it, so can I’ and continue her pursuit of her goals”

Mimi A. Williams

Shebat Legion is an abuse survivor. She suffers from chronic pain due to the many injuries she sustained as a child, most notably, her spine. Shebat battles depression and often counters it with sharing humorous pictures on Facebook. She is a quiet person who prefers country air to city lights and is more comfortable in the company of animals than with people.

She is, at heart, a water creature and every moment that can be spent in the water brings a peace to her soul that cannot be found elsewhere.

Shebat’s motto is: “We are all in this together. I firmly believe that each of us has a responsibility to each other and to all living things. I encourage empathy, kindness and compassion whenever possible.”

Legion’s stories include "Dree, On Wednesday,” first published in the Halloween anthology, Hoblin Goblin."I Am Anastasia's Bracelet," written in collaboration with Michael H. Mimi A. Williams has been reading horror for a lot longer than her sweet mom knows about, and probably started far younger than she should have with the likes of Poe, Shelly, King, and Koontz. Her first venture into writing horror was as co-author of the novel Beautiful Monster.

Mimi's love of the short form comes from classics such as Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily" and Poe's "The Black Cat" among many others. She has had several horror short stories published in the Axes of Evil I and II anthologies, Old Scratch and Owl Hoots, and Toys in the Attic (which also includes some of her horror poetry). She also edited the horror anthology Hidden in Plain Sight from James Ward Kirk Publishing .

Williams holds an MFA in Writing from Vermont College and has taught Creative Writing and various English courses at local colleges in her home state of Utah (and no, she's not Mormon and doesn't know the Osmonds). Under her legal name, she has had a number of fiction and nonfiction books for children and young adults published.
